Features

The HDR400 is beige in colour, and worn behind-the-ear, with a thin silicon-plastic tubing directing the amplified sound into the ear canal. A ‘dome’ is attached to the end of the thin tubing. The dome helps the thin tubing sit comfortably in the ear canal. The thin tubing should sit close to the side of the head, and when in place correctly, offers a discreet fitting.

User controls have been made as easy to use as possible. The volume control is wheel-styled and numbered; and there is an on/off switch with a coloured green light flash to confirm the aid is on.

There is a mini-USB port at the base of the HDR400 for the charger cable.

The HDR400 uses 8 sound processing channels to give a clear reproduction of incoming sound. A number of sound processing features such as advanced noise reduction are applied within those channels to deliver optimal sound performance and minimal background noise interference.

The HDR400 has twin-microphone technology that enables you to focus on the speech sounds in front of you for superior conversational clarity.

If you have sent us your audiogram in advance, the HDR400 will be programmed with 3 listening programmes based on your audiogram.

  • Setting 1 for general hearing in quieter environments/ TV/ outside
  • Setting 2 for hearing in noisier environments
  • Setting 3 optimised for music

If you do not have an audiogram; our default setting, suitable for mild to moderate, high frequency hearing loss is used to create the three settings. The volume control will also give a range of 15dB up and 15dB down from the mid point.

FAQs

Here's answers to the frequently asked questions about the HDR 400 Rechargeable Digital Hearing Aid
How do I use the HDR400?

How do I know if the sound will be right for me?

If you have a copy of a hearing test available you can send it to us and we can confirm if the HDR400 can cover your hearing loss. If you order without providing a hearing test result, you will be trying out its standard settings, which cater for a mild to moderate, mainly high frequency hearing loss.

How do I know if it will fit my ear?

The medium length (size 2) HDR tubing included as standard fits more than 85% of our customers comfortably - but we will send out a shorter or longer tubing if need be. A number of different sizes and styles of dome designs can also be used. A smaller dome can help to minimise the ear canal feeling blocked up; but a bigger dome may be required to prevent amplified sound leaking back out the ear canal and creating feedback (whistling).

How many times can it be re-charged?

At least 500 times; after which there may be a 10% decline in use time after full charge. The rechargeable battery within the hearing aid can be replaced with a new one, but this has to be done at the manufacturer’s lab.

What if it doesn't work for me?

If anything about the physical fitting or sound is not to your liking, you can return the HDR400 for a full refund within the first 30 days of receipt. Do of course feel free to contact us to see if the problem can be resolved with a fine tuning.

Should I get one or two?

If an evaluation by a hearing professional indicates that you have hearing loss in both ears, and especially where the degree of loss is similar, two hearing aids are usually recommended.

While it may be tempting to try to limit the cost by going with a single hearing aid, wearing just one hearing aid may not give you maximum benefit in some difficult listening situations.

Although rechargeable, are there other running costs?

Yes - the following items will need to be replaced on the HDR400:

  • Dome: change the dome every month on average (10 domes in a pack)
  • Tubing: change the HDR tubing every 3 months (single tubings can be purchased, or in a pack of 5)
How do I turn the HDR400 on/off?

Push button on the back

How do I work the controls?

There is a wheel-style volume control on the spine of the HDR400 allowing volume to be adjusted up and down. The on/off switch also functions as a programme selector - to change between the 3 different listening programmes.

How long does it take to charge?

The HDR400 takes around 3-4 hours.  A full charge gives 20 hours of use in quiet environments. Noisier environments mean more processing required, and this can slightly affect the use time. If the aid needs to be used before a full charge has been done, the use time will be shorter than 20 hours.
